Justin has particular experience advising companies in the energy, oil and gas, and petroleum sectors on state tax planning, controversy and policy matters. He regularly counsels clients on the state tax implications of mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, business expansions and other strategic transactions, helping businesses manage multistate tax obligations and controversy risk.
Prior to rejoining Eversheds Sutherland (US) LLP as counsel, Justin served in an in-house state tax lead role, where he managed state tax controversy, planning, and policy matters across multiple jurisdictions. His experience includes overseeing audits and disputes, advising on the state tax implications of acquisitions and divestitures, developing tax-efficient planning strategies, evaluating legislative proposals, and addressing complex income tax, motor fuel tax, property tax and excise tax issues.
